A871 Atmospheric Corrosion Resistant HSLA Steel
ASTM A871 Structural Steel Plate
A871 atmospheric corrosion resistant HSLA steel is structural steel plate intended for use in tubular structures, poles and other suitable applications. A871 atmospheric corrosion resistant HSLA is available in grades 60 & 65, which may be provided as-rolled, normalized or quenched & tempered, to meet specific mechanical requirements.
The atmospheric corrosion resistance of this steel in most environments is substantially better than that of carbon structural steels with or without copper addition. When properly exposed to the atmosphere, this steel can be used bare (unpainted) for many applications.
When steel is to be welded, it is presumed that a welding procedure suitable for the grade of steel and intended use or service will be used. See appendix X3 of specification A6/A6M for information on weldability.
