    Standard Specifications for Alloy Structural Steel Plates

    TA829-4140 steel plate is structural quality alloy steel plate with specific chemical composition requirements given in detail below. Tensile properties may also be specified for A829-4140 steel plate. When tensile properties are required, the specific requirements must be compatible with the chemical composition, condition, and plate thickness.

    Plates can be supplied in the following condition: As Rolled; Annealed; Normalized; and Normalized & Tempered. When steel is to be welded, it is assumed that a welding procedure suitable for the grade of steel and intended use or service will be used. See appendix X3 of specification A6/A6M for information on weldability.

    Chemical Requirements:

    • Carbon Range of .36 to .44
    • Manganese Range of .75 to 1.00
    • Phosphorous .035 max
    • Sulfur .040 max
    • Silicon range of .15 to .35
    • Chromium range of .80 to 1.10
    • Molybdenum range of .15 to .25

    Mechanical Requirements:
